The Hanwha Eagles have moved to secure a mound prospect through the rookie draft. On the 21st, Hanwha selected Sung Jae-woo, a pitcher from Jeonju High School, in the fifth round of the rookie draft.

The rookie draft is a procedure in which KBO League teams exercise their rights to designate players who have performed on amateur stages such as high school and college. Selected players go through contract negotiations with their clubs and, once signed, officially join the professional ranks.

Attention is focused on whether Sung Jae-woo can develop into a resource to lead Hanwha's pitching staff in the future. Earlier, Hanwha selected Min Ju-hong of Seolak High School in the first round of this draft. Having secured future talent in the fifth round following the early rounds, it remains to be seen how Hanwha will complete its roster of new rookies.
