On the 22nd, the KOSPI closed moderately higher, defending the 7,000 level after repeated large swings during the session. The index finished at 7,017.91, up 10.19 points (0.15%) from the previous trading day. It opened at 7,161.61 and rose as high as 7,171.44 intraday, but later gave back its gains, at one point dipping below the 7,000 mark to 6,986.27.

The movements of the top 10 stocks by market capitalization were mixed.

Among the gainers, Samsung Electro-Mechanics stood out the most, rising 53,000 won (3.71%) to close at 1,482,000 won, the biggest increase among the top-ranked stocks. Samsung Electronics closed at 275,500 won, up 1,500 won (0.55%) from the previous trading day, while Samsung Electronics preferred shares finished at 210,500 won, up 1.20%. Hyundai Motor recorded a moderate gain, rising 0.42% to 360,500 won, and SK Square closed up 0.09% at 1,128,000 won.

On the downside, SK Hynix finished trading at 1,835,000 won, down 33,000 won (1.77%). LG Energy Solution fell 0.57% and Samsung Biologics dropped 0.78%, while KB Financial Group and Samsung C&T declined 0.96% and 0.82%, respectively.

Market attention is now turning to the session on the 23rd, ahead of the Chuseok holiday. Investors are focused on whether the KOSPI can settle above the 7,000 level. External variables that may arise during the holiday period also warrant attention.
