On the morning of the 23rd, domestic nuclear power-related stocks are declining across the board. Major stocks, including Doosan Enerbility, Korea Plant Service & Engineering (KEPCO E&C), and Woojin, continue to weaken, while market attention is focused on the potential impact of South Korea-U.S. negotiations over a stake investment in Westinghouse on domestic nuclear power stocks.

Declines Widen Among Major Nuclear Power Stocks

As of 10:57 a.m., Doosan Enerbility is trading at 81,500 won, down 5.78% from the previous trading day. KEPCO E&C fell 4.99% to 131,200 won, while Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) declined 1.62% to 30,350 won.

Woojin posted the largest drop among the listed stocks, trading down 6.80% at 13,560 won. Woory Technology is trading down 3.72% at 12,920 won, and Woojin Entech is down 3.73% at 13,900 won.

In addition, KEPCO KPS fell 2.13% to 45,850 won, and Orbitech dropped 3.61% to 5,600 won. Geumhwa PSC recorded 34,150 won (-1.58%) and Soosan Industries 21,450 won (-0.92%), all showing weakness together.

Negotiations Underway to Secure 5-10% Westinghouse Stake

Meanwhile, in the nuclear power industry, discussions on a South Korea-U.S. stake investment in Westinghouse have emerged as a key issue. The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy reportedly explained in a report to the National Assembly that it is negotiating with the U.S. side on a plan to secure a 5-10% stake in Westinghouse in connection with a project to build eight new nuclear power plants in the United States.

However, the stake ratio and investment terms have not yet been finalized. The authority that can be exercised after securing the stake is also cited as a point of industry interest.

Key Point to Watch: Whether It Leads to Business Participation and Actual Orders

Going forward, the key point to watch is how much the stake investment discussions translate into domestic companies' participation in nuclear power projects and actual orders. Depending on the outcome of the negotiations, expectations for business expansion may vary, but it is difficult to conclude that there will be uniform benefits until each company's scope of participation and contract terms are specified.

Attention is focused on whether domestic nuclear power stocks will narrow their losses during the remaining trading hours and how share prices will move depending on future negotiations and follow-up announcements.
