The domestic stock market resumes trading on the 28th following the end of the Chuseok holiday. After both KOSPI and KOSDAQ rose on the 23rd, just before the holiday, and the New York stock market also closed higher on the 25th (local time), attention is focused on the market's direction on the first trading day.

KOSPI Defends the 7,000 Level, Closing at 7,080.92

On the 23rd, KOSPI closed at 7,080.92, up 63.01 points (0.90%) from the previous trading day. Although it showed wide swings, rising as high as 7,153.99 early in the session before falling back to 7,014.98, it finished trading while holding the 7,000 level.

Among large-cap stocks, Samsung Electronics (3.25%), SK Hynix (1.20%), and SK Square (5.03%) rose. Samsung Electro-Mechanics also closed up 1.41% at 1,507,000 won. In contrast, Hyundai Motor, Samsung Biologics, and KB Financial fell, showing mixed movements by stock.

KOSDAQ Up 1.21%... Focus on Reaching the 850 Level on the 28th

KOSDAQ posted a higher gain than KOSPI. Its closing price on the 23rd was 844.48, up 10.10 points (1.21%) from the previous trading day. As it rose as high as 847.35 during the session, whether it will reach the 850 level on the 28th is a key watch point.

Among KOSDAQ's top market-cap stocks, Jusung Engineering closed up 2.95% at 209,500 won, while Wonik IPS and Eotech also rose 2.61% and 1.69%, respectively. Whether the strength of semiconductor-related stocks will continue after trading resumes, and whether the range of rising stocks will broaden, are also points to watch.

New York Stock Market Closes Higher... Supply and Demand After the Open Is a Variable

While the domestic market was closed, the New York stock market rose. On the 25th (local time), the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed up 0.93% at 51,828.62. The S&P 500 index closed up 0.51% at 7,743.41, and the Nasdaq Composite finished up 0.48% at 27,068.72.

How the U.S. market's gains will affect the domestic market on the 28th is expected to be seen through supply and demand and stock-by-stock movements after the open. Attention is focused on whether KOSPI will settle at the 7,080 level and whether KOSDAQ will break through the 850 level.
