The KOSPI closed higher on the first trading day of October, recovering the 6,970 level. Large-cap stocks, including Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, surged en masse, driving the index's gains.

On October 1, the KOSPI finished the regular session at 6,971.35, up 133.31 points (1.95%) from the previous trading day. The index opened at 6,814.49 and dipped as low as 6,765.06 during the session, but later expanded its gains, with an intraday high of 6,971.36, effectively wrapping up the first October session strongly near its peak.

'Samtecnics' Lead... Most of Top 10 Market-Cap Stocks Rise

The top 10 stocks by market capitalization mostly turned red on the boards.

Samsung Electronics closed at 276,000 won, up 7,500 won (2.79%) from the previous session, while SK Hynix finished at 1,833,000 won, up 57,000 won (3.21%). Samsung Electronics Preferred Shares rose 4.76% to 204,500 won, recording a relatively high gain among top market-cap stocks.

Samsung Electro-Mechanics climbed 3.17% to 1,561,000 won, and SK Square gained 1.40% to close at 1,155,000 won. LG Energy Solution (up 0.98% to 360,500 won), Hyundai Motor (up 1.16% to 349,000 won), and Samsung Biologics (up 2.73% to 1,429,000 won) also extended their upward momentum.

In contrast, KB Financial fell 1.66% to 166,000 won, the only decliner among the top 10 market-cap stocks, while Samsung Life Insurance ended trading at 284,000 won, up 0.71%.

Market Eyes Whether KOSPI Can Reclaim 7,000

After falling on the final trading day of September, the KOSPI immediately rebounded in the first October session. Market attention is now focused on the possibility of the index reclaiming the 7,000 level and the trends of large-cap stocks such as the 'Samtecnics.'
