Doosan Enerbility closed higher as concrete discussions have begun on building two Korean-designed APR1400 nuclear reactors in the United States, sustaining market interest in nuclear-related businesses. Investors are keeping a close watch on market movements on the 7th.

The stock finished the regular session on the 6th at 81,500 won, up 400 won (0.49%) from the previous trading day.

■ First Nuclear Export Planning Committee Meeting Since the Korea-U.S. Nuclear Framework

A recently notable development is the move to translate the U.S. nuclear project into an actual project stage following the Korea-U.S. nuclear framework.

According to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the Nuclear Export Planning Committee was held on the 1st at the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry, chaired by Kim Chang-hee, Director-General for Nuclear Energy Policy. This was the first committee meeting since the announcement of the Korea-U.S. nuclear framework on September 30 U.S. time.

The committee discussed plans to push for the construction of eight large nuclear reactors in the United States. Among them, it reviewed a plan for Korea to build two Korean-designed APR1400 reactors in the U.S. under Team Korea's leadership, and a plan for Korean companies to participate in six AP1000 reactors, the U.S. Westinghouse design.

In particular, regarding the two APR1400 units, the discussion went beyond a simple export direction to cover step-by-step plans needed for actual reactor construction, including basic design and licensing, engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contracts, and commissioning. It also addressed conditions for meeting target project schedules and construction periods, as well as anticipated problems and solutions in the project process.

■ Plan to Form 'Team Korea' Council at an Early Stage

The formation of 'Team Korea' to respond to the U.S. APR1400 project was presented as a key task.

The ministry plans to form a council at an early stage, once concrete project conditions are presented, centered on nuclear public enterprises such as KEPCO and KHNP, with participation from export financing institutions, construction companies, and equipment suppliers. The council will work on drafting proposals, establishing project implementation plans, preparing bids, and responding to U.S. licensing procedures.

■ Why Doosan Enerbility Is Drawing Attention

Doosan Enerbility draws attention in this process because it is the leading company manufacturing core nuclear equipment such as reactors and steam generators within the domestic nuclear supply chain.

If the APR1400 overseas project progresses to the actual construction stage, both key nuclear equipment manufacturing and the equipment supply chain could be set in motion, and the market is closely watching the future order structure and the scope of Korean companies' participation.

■ Parallel Discussions on AP1000 Supply Chain Participation

Discussions on participating in the supply chain for six U.S.-designed AP1000 reactors are also underway in parallel.

The ministry plans to invite buyers from the U.S. nuclear industry to the '2026 Nuclear Export and Safety Conclave (NES 2026)' to be held in Gyeongju from the 27th to the 29th, hosting procurement consultations and business meetings between Korean and U.S. companies. Through this, it aims to expand Korean companies' participation in the U.S. nuclear supply chain, including AP1000.

■ Remaining Variables: 'Speed and Structure of Orders'

Ultimately, market attention is expected to focus on how quickly the vision for eight large U.S. reactors moves into the actual contract and order stages. The two APR1400 units involve a direct construction plan centered on Team Korea, while the six AP1000 units involve a structure in which Korean companies participate in the supply chain, so the two projects also differ in nature.

However, at this stage, it cannot be said that Doosan Enerbility has won the U.S. APR1400 two-unit project. The government has also stated that it will form the council and proceed with preparing proposals and bid documents as concrete project conditions are presented.

Therefore, whether the project site, ordering method, business operator composition, EPC contract structure, and equipment suppliers are concretized will be key variables for Korean nuclear-related companies, including Doosan Enerbility.
