If you paid insurance premiums twice or if your premiums were recalculated due to a change in income, it is worth checking whether you have money to be refunded. The National Health Insurance Service (NHIS) is operating a 'refund concentrated payment period' until November 30 to return unclaimed health insurance premium refunds.

■ Who is eligible for health insurance refunds

Health insurance refunds are a system for reclaiming overpaid medical costs or premiums. The health insurance premium refunds targeted by this concentrated payment period arise when premiums are paid twice or paid in error. Amounts to be refunded may also arise in the process of recalculating premiums due to changes in a subscriber's status or income.

The NHIS is operating the concentrated payment period for two months starting October 1, and when refunds occur, it notifies eligible individuals through various channels, including mail, the NHIS website and mobile app, and the National Secretary service.

■ How to check and apply for refunds

National Health Insurance refunds can be checked and applied for through the NHIS website or mobile app. Those who have difficulty using online services can contact the customer service center or visit a nearby NHIS branch to confirm and apply.

■ 'Advance account consent' to receive refunds without separate application

To receive future refunds without a separate application, you can use the 'health insurance premium refund advance account consent application.' By registering an account through a branch visit or the customer service center, you can receive future refunds in the registered account.

■ Beware of impersonation texts and emails

Caution is also needed regarding texts or emails impersonating refund notifications. According to the NHIS, text messages and emails notifying of health insurance premium refunds do not contain internet addresses (URLs). You should take care, such as immediately deleting texts or emails from unclear or suspicious senders.

The NHIS urged the public to check for unclaimed refunds through the website or mobile app.
