SBS is presenting a career exploration program that reexamines the relationship between academic background and success, titled 'Rewriting the Success Equation: Young-KK Is Commuting to Work.' The broadcast will air on Sunday, October 18 and 25 at 10:55 a.m.
Four MCs—Moon Se-yoon, Lee Sang-yeob, Lee Mi-joo, and So Seul-ji—delve into the concerns of third-year middle school students facing high school advancement and their parents.
◆ The 'Samsung-SK Hynix' Boom and the Rise of the 'Neo Blue Collar'
The program focuses on the realities of education in South Korea and the career criteria needed in future society. In particular, it analyzes the impact of SK Hynix's annual salaries in the hundreds of millions for high school graduate employees and the 'Samsung-SK Hynix' boom on the education and economic sectors. Another key topic is the growing preference for technical talent with practical skills over academic credentials, driven by the development of cutting-edge industries such as AI, semiconductors, secondary batteries, and smart manufacturing. It introduces the rise of new high-income job groups such as 'neo blue collar' workers, pointing out that changes are underway in the existing academic-background-centered social conventions.
◆ Vivid Personal Stories from the Four MCs
The MCs' personal histories also add to the program's persuasiveness. Moon Se-yoon, as the father of a third-year middle school daughter, conveys the concerns of parents, while Lee Mi-joo, a graduate of a vocational high school, shares her own experience. Lee Sang-yeob explains his case of transferring from a business administration department to a theater and film department, and So Seul-ji discusses the meaning of going to university.
SBS stated that this program will serve as an opportunity to think together about new career selection criteria suited to a changing society, moving beyond the existing success formulas of 'any good university' or 'four-year universities first.'
