A stage bringing together world-renowned opera artists and traditional Korean court dance will unfold at Seonhyewon, a hanok space in Samcheong-dong, Seoul. SK Group and the Podowae Museum announced that they will hold the 'Seonhyewon Art Project 2.5' for two days from the 24th to the 25th.

The event was planned by Kim Hee-young, general director of the Podowae Museum. It is characterized by expanding the existing project, which had focused on visual arts, into performing arts fields such as music and dance.

■ May 24: Four Met Opera Artists and the Court Dance 'Chunaeongmu'

The performance on the 24th will feature Park Hye-sang, Kim Hyo-na, Rene Barbera, and Lucas Meachem, who perform on the stage of the Metropolitan Opera in New York, USA. They will present major pieces from Verdi's opera 'La Traviata.'

The Joseon-era court dance 'Chunaeongmu,' directed by Chung Koo-ho, will also take the stage. The program is structured so audiences can enjoy Western opera and traditional Korean dance together in a hanok space.

■ May 25: Lucas Meachem Masterclass and Special Performance

On the 25th, a masterclass will be held for vocal performance majors at domestic music universities. Metropolitan Opera baritone Lucas Meachem will directly coach students' singing, offering advice on vocal technique, musical interpretation, and stage expression.

The masterclass will run for about two hours and thirty minutes from 2 p.m., including a question-and-answer session. Audience members can watch firsthand as students develop their musical expression under the guidance of a professional vocalist.

Following that, a special performance by Metropolitan Opera artists will run for about thirty minutes starting at 4:30 p.m. Both the masterclass observation and the special performance are free of charge, and reservations for attendance will be accepted through Naver Reservation starting on the 19th.

■ Beyond Visual Arts into Performing Arts: Expanding the Program's Scope

The Seonhyewon Art Project is an initiative that utilizes Seonhyewon, a historic space of SK Group, as a cultural and arts venue. Starting with Kimsooja's solo exhibition last year, it has presented contemporary art exhibitions such as 'Well-being of Shaking Things' this year, and this time it has broadened the scope of its programs by incorporating performing arts.

The Podowae Museum, which opened on Jeju Island in 2022, operates exhibitions and cultural arts exchange programs aimed at spreading the values of diversity and inclusion through art. The Podowae Museum plans to continue strengthening cooperation with domestic and international artists and cultural institutions, and to carry on presenting diverse artistic programs that reinterpret the historical significance of Seonhyewon in a contemporary way.
