Semiconductor substrate-related stocks are falling across the board early in the session on the 23rd. As skepticism about artificial intelligence (AI) investment resurfaced in the U.S. New York stock market overnight, extending a sell-off centered on tech stocks, weakness is spreading to domestic semiconductor substrate stocks as well.
■ Major Stocks Down Around 5%
As of 9:44 a.m. on the 23rd, Samsung Electro-Mechanics is trading at 1,086,500 won, down 5.11% from the previous day. LG Innotek is down 5.19% at 374,500 won, and Dae Duck Electronics has fallen 5.96% to 119,900 won.
Other semiconductor substrate-related stocks also failed to escape the downturn. Tae Sung is down 2.90% at 50,300 won, and TLB is trading 5.20% lower at 35,550 won. Gigavis has dropped 5.64% to 98,700 won, and Inteflex is down 5.90% at 52,600 won.
Some stocks show relatively steep declines. Isu Petasys is down 6.64% at 84,400 won, and Simtech Holdings has fallen 7.01% to 3,315 won. Korea Circuit is trading 8.03% lower at 56,300 won, while Simtech is down 8.79% at 109,000 won.
■ Overnight New York Market: Nasdaq Plunges 2.60%
The simultaneous weakness is interpreted as a combination of the plunge in U.S. tech stocks and shrinking investor sentiment in the broader domestic market.
Earlier, on the 22nd (local time), the New York stock market was shaken sharply, centered on tech stocks, as skeptical views on expanded AI investment resurfaced. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 52,867.98, up 11.89 points (0.02%) from the previous session, but the S&P 500 index finished at 7,663.43, down 93.74 points (1.21%). Notably, the Nasdaq Composite ended the session at 26,008.86, plummeting 694.00 points (2.60%).
With market wariness over AI-related investment rising, the broad price correction in tech stocks is weighing on investor sentiment for domestic semiconductor and related components and materials stocks.
■ KOSPI and KOSDAQ Both Down Over 2%
The country's two main indices are also weak in early trading. At the same time, the KOSPI is at 5,369.84, down 163.93 points (2.96%) from the previous day, and the KOSDAQ is trading at 743.12, down 20.98 points (2.74%). With both the KOSPI and KOSDAQ falling more than 2% in tandem, selling pressure is expanding across semiconductor substrate stocks overall.
■ Market Watch: Whether Losses Will Narrow
The market is watching how much of the shock from the U.S. tech stock plunge will be priced in during the session and whether semiconductor substrate-related stocks can narrow their losses. Some argue that, given remaining mid- to long-term expectations for expanding AI server and high-performance semiconductor demand, short-term deterioration in investor sentiment should be distinguished from actual industry outlook.
However, as it is still early in the morning session, individual stock prices and rates of change may shift depending on intraday supply and demand conditions. Future U.S. tech stock trends, market assessments of AI investment, and changes in domestic market supply and demand are cited as key variables that will determine the direction of semiconductor substrate stock prices.
