■ FOMC Base Rate Announcement Scheduled for the 29th... Treasury Bond Yields Rise Across All Maturities
Attention is also focused on external financial market variables that could affect gold prices. With the U.S. Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) scheduled to announce its base rate on October 29, Korea time, Treasury bond yields rose across all maturities in the domestic bond market.
In the Seoul bond market on the 28th, the yield on 3-year Treasury bonds finished at 3.799% per annum, up 4.1 basis points from the previous trading day.
Yield increases were also prominent in long-term bonds. The 10-year Treasury bond yield recorded 4.108% per annum, up 7.6 basis points from the previous trading day, while 2-year and 5-year bonds also joined the upward trend, closing at 3.763% and 3.949% per annum, respectively.
Similar movements appeared in ultra-long-term bonds as well. The 20-year yield was recorded at 4.193%, the 30-year at 4.221%, and the 50-year at 4.251% per annum. Notably, the 30-year yield rose 7.0 basis points from the previous trading day, showing expanding interest rate volatility in the long-term segment.
Market attention is directed toward the direction of U.S. monetary policy. The Fed's base rate decision and signals about its future policy stance could affect U.S. Treasury yields and the value of the dollar, which serve as important variables for international gold prices and domestic gold market rates.
