■ Continued Decline in U.S. Treasury Yields... A Tailwind for Gold

As U.S. Treasury yields continue to fall in November, following October, attention is focused on the impact this could have on the international gold market.

On the 2nd (local time), the yields on U.S. 10-year and 30-year Treasury bonds each fell by about 4bp (1bp = 0.01 percentage point). The 10-year Treasury yield fell below 4.87% during the session, recording its lowest level since September 10.

According to Bloomberg, the U.S. 10-year Treasury yield fell 31bp from 5.24% to 4.93% in October, marking the largest monthly decline since December 2023.

The main background for the decline in Treasury yields is attributed to expectations of easing inflation pressure due to falling international oil prices. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures prices plunged 7.4% from the previous trading day to close at $96.5 per barrel, as news emerged of the possibility of negotiations between the United States and Iran.

The decline in U.S. Treasury yields could act as a positive factor for gold prices, as it can increase the relative investment appeal of gold, which does not pay interest. However, volatility in international gold prices could also expand depending on the future direction of the Federal Reserve's (Fed) monetary policy and dollar movements.

■ U.S. Jobs Data on the 6th Will Determine the Future Direction of Gold Prices

On the 6th, Korean time, the U.S. October unemployment rate and nonfarm payroll data are scheduled to be released. This jobs report is drawing attention as a key economic indicator for gauging the direction of the U.S. labor market and the Fed's future interest rate policy.

In particular, if the jobs data comes in weaker than market expectations, expectations of rate hikes could weaken, potentially acting as a factor pushing gold prices up. Conversely, if the labor market proves more robust than expected, Treasury yields and the dollar could rebound, potentially weighing on gold prices.

Accordingly, the gold market is expected to focus on whether the decline in U.S. Treasury yields will continue and on the results of the jobs report to be released on the 6th.
