Recommended Spring Trip to Tongyeong: 5 Must-Visit Destinations Navigating the Scenic Hallyeohaesang

Tongyeong is a representative marine tourism city where the blue sea and numerous islands blend harmoniously. It is deeply infused with the scent of art and culture, and boasts many historically significant attractions, offering visitors a variety of experiences. Here are five worth-visiting places in Tongyeong to enjoy a special spring trip amidst the unique landscapes created by the islands and the sea.

1. Jangsado Sea Park Camellia Located in Maejuk-ri, Hansan-myeon, Tongyeong, Gyeongnam, 'Jangsado Sea Park Camellia' is a theme park where you can admire the outstanding scenery of the Hallyeohaesang. In winter, camellia flowers, and in summer, hydrangeas beautifully color the entire island. With evergreen forests covering the island, it boasts lush scenery all year round. Observation decks placed along the walking trails offer wide-open sea views, and various sculptures in harmony with nature add to its appeal as a maritime cultural park.

2. Bijindo Beach Located in the outer port village of Bijin-ri, Hansan-myeon, 'Bijindo Beach' is a natural white sand beach impressive for its unique topography. The white sand beach stretches long like a dumbbell, connecting the inner and outer islands, showcasing a unique scenery where both the front and back of the beach face the sea. The western beach consists of fine, calm sand, while the eastern beach is characterized by rough waters and small smooth stones. With its fine sand and shallow waters, it is a great place to relax quietly, and over 100-year-old sea pines form a cool forest on the beach hill. In the surrounding area, which is part of the Hallyeohaesang National Park, you can encounter rocks of various shapes, such as General Rock and Pot Rock, as well as the natural habitat of the natural monument, the Fatsia japonica (Aralia elata) tree.

3. Chungmugong Cruise Ship The 'Chungmugong Cruise Ship', available in Donam-dong, Tongyeong, offers a special experience to enjoy the Tongyeong Canal and beautiful night views from on board. Departing from the Tongyeong Port in the Hallyeohaesang, you can sequentially view the International Music Hall, Ganggu Port, Yi Sun-sin Park, Tongyeong Canal, Chungmu Bridge, and Tongyeong Bridge. It is a great way to enjoy the romantic atmosphere of the night sea while appreciating the art-like illuminated Tongyeong Bridge and buildings embroidered with colorful lights. It operates the latest large cruise ships, adding to the joy of the trip with safe and pleasant facilities.

4. Skyline Luge Tongyeong Located in Donam-dong, Tongyeong, Gyeongnam, 'Skyline Luge Tongyeong' offers a thrilling experience as the nation's first luge activity facility. It boasts a long course of 3.8 km with a total of 4 tracks. Riding up on the Skyride chairlift, you can simultaneously overlook the sea off the coast of Tongyeong and the mountain scenery. The fun of directly controlling a gravity-driven luge cart through curved sections is outstanding, and it is highly popular among family travelers due to its diverse courses. Since its opening in 2017, it has established itself as a major local tourist destination, becoming an attraction visited by numerous people.

5. Tongyeong Undersea Tunnel Located in Dang-dong, Tongyeong, the 'Tongyeong Undersea Tunnel' is the first undersea tunnel in the East, built in 1932. With dimensions of 483m in length, 5m in width, and 3.5m in height, it was completed by blocking both sides of the sea, pouring concrete to form the tunnel, and then removing the breakwaters. At the entrance of the tunnel, the Chinese characters 'Yongmundalyang' are inscribed, meaning 'passing through the dragon gate to reach Mireukdo'. It was once a major connection between Tongyeong and Mireukdo, but since the opening of the Chungmu Bridge and Tongyeong Bridge, it remains a space preserving its historical significance.
