U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he had mediated a cessation of hostilities between Israel and the Lebanese pro-Iranian armed group Hezbollah, but armed clashes between the two sides continued.
According to the Lebanese state-run National News Agency (NNA) on the 2nd (local time), several villages in the south, including Marwanyeh, Siddiqin, Yater, and Mansuri, were subjected to Israeli airstrikes the previous night. A strong explosion occurred in the village of Debin, and later that morning, a vehicle was struck by an airstrike in the southern small town of Toule, causing a fire.
The Israeli military did not issue a separate statement regarding the airstrikes in the south. However, it stated that during the early morning hours, Hezbollah fired two rockets toward Safed in the north, triggering alerts, and that they were intercepted by the air defense system. A Hezbollah drone crashed into a military base in the Western Galilee, but there were no casualties. Additionally, an object presumed to be a Hezbollah drone appeared in an area of Israeli military operations in southern Lebanon, prompting further alerts across the northern region.
Earlier, President Trump stated on Truth Social that he had spoken with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Hezbollah the previous day, and that both sides had agreed to halt mutual attacks. The U.S. Embassy in Lebanon also conveyed that Hezbollah had accepted the U.S. proposal for a 'cessation of mutual attacks.'
However, Prime Minister Netanyahu stated in a release, "I told President Trump that if Hezbollah does not stop its attacks on Israeli cities and citizens, we will strike terror targets in Beirut." He also emphasized that the ongoing military operations in southern Lebanon would continue as planned.
