The U.S. stock market opened higher in early trading on July 14 (local time). As investors digest the June Consumer Price Index (CPI) released today, attention is focused on inflation trends and the future direction of monetary policy.

As of 10:40 p.m. on July 14 (Korean time), all three major U.S. indices are maintaining a slightly higher to bullish trend.

• Dow Jones Industrial Average: 52,532.04, up 33.40 points (0.06%) from the previous trading day • Standard & Poor's (S&P) 500 Index: 7,534.70, up 19.36 points (0.26%) • Nasdaq Composite Index (tech-heavy): 26,011.36, up 138.18 points (0.53%)

The market's key focus is the result of the U.S. June CPI released today. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the June CPI rose 3.5% year-over-year, while the core CPI, excluding food and energy, increased 2.6%.

This inflation indicator serves as a key benchmark for gauging the future direction of the Federal Reserve's (Fed) monetary policy. If the trend of easing inflation continues, expectations for interest rate cuts are expected to grow. On the other hand, some analysts suggest that if volatility in international oil prices intensifies again due to recent geopolitical risks in the Middle East, it could act as a new variable in the future inflation path.

Investors plan to seek additional signals on the direction of interest rates through upcoming major U.S. economic indicators and remarks from Federal Reserve officials. Additionally, as second-quarter corporate earnings reports begin in earnest, companies' earnings results and forward guidance are also cited as major variables that will determine the further direction of the New York stock market.
