[Breaking] KOSPI and KOSDAQ Plunge Over 5%... Nuclear Power Stocks Including Doosan Enerbility Fall in Tandem
CBC News

On the morning of the 16th, the domestic stock market saw both the KOSPI and KOSDAQ plunge by around 5%, severely dampening investor sentiment, while nuclear power-related stocks also exhibited a broad downward trend.

As of 9:53 a.m., Doosan Enerbility was trading at 70,650 won, down 3.21% from the previous trading day. Woori Technology also recorded 10,170 won, a 5.21% decline, marking a relatively steep drop among major nuclear power stocks.

In addition, most nuclear power theme stocks followed the broader bearish market trend. Kepco Engineering & Construction (-2.21%), Sujan Industries (-0.70%), Woojin (-3.47%), Geumhwa PSC (-0.61%), Orbitech (-2.80%), Woojin Entech (-2.87%), Mobis (-3.00%), and Daechang Solution (-3.59%) all fell into negative territory.

On the other hand, some stocks showed limited gains and bucked the downward trend. Korea Electric Power Corporation traded at 34,050 won, up 0.44% from the previous session, while Kepco KPS rose 0.34% to 44,000 won, maintaining a defensive trajectory.

At the same time, both major indices displayed a sharp downward curve. The KOSPI fell 5.98% to 6,848.65, and the KOSDAQ dropped 3.54% to 800.04, failing to avoid a synchronized decline.

Overall, the sell-off in nuclear power stocks is interpreted as being driven by profit-taking following the index plunge and a flight from risk assets. Going forward, the direction of nuclear power stocks is expected to be influenced by whether domestic market investor sentiment recovers, changes in large-cap stock supply and demand, and global market trends. Given the expanding market volatility, investors need to closely monitor intraday movements and sector rotation patterns.
