On the morning of the 20th, following the KOSDAQ market, a 'sell-side circuit breaker (suspension of program sell orders)' was successively triggered in the KOSPI market to prevent a short-term sharp decline.
According to the Korea Exchange, at 11:21:26 a.m. on the same day, a sell-side circuit breaker was implemented in the securities market (KOSPI), suspending the validity of program sell orders for five minutes. Accordingly, program sell orders in the KOSPI market will not be accepted for the next five minutes.
This KOSPI measure was triggered after the price of futures (the highest-volume issue from the previous trading day) based on the KOSPI 200 as the underlying asset remained down by 5% or more from the benchmark price for over one minute. The futures price recorded 1,040.00 points, down 56.35 points (-5.13%) from the benchmark price of 1,096.35 points.
Earlier on the same day at 10:52:54 a.m., a circuit breaker was first activated in the KOSDAQ market. As the KOSDAQ 150 futures price and the spot index plummeted by 6.16% and 6.15%, respectively, compared to the previous day, the validity of program sell orders was suspended for five minutes.
