As Gyeonggi Province's local tax delinquencies reach 1.4982 trillion won this year, the province is launching full-scale field-oriented collection activities.

On the 5th, the '2026 Gyeonggi Province Delinquency Management Team Launch Ceremony' was held at Dasan Hall in the Gyeonggi Provincial Government building. Around 400 attendees, including Gyeonggi Province Governor Choo Mi-ae, delinquency management team members from 31 cities and counties, and related officials, were present. Representatives of the delinquency management team expressed their commitment through a resolution to establish a fair tax order that respects diligent taxpayers and to do their utmost in field-oriented delinquency collection.

The Gyeonggi Province Delinquency Management Team consists of 576 local tax revenue delinquency management investigators selected from 31 cities and counties. From August through November, they will verify delinquent taxpayers' actual residence status and ability to pay in the field, and carry out customized management tasks based on delinquency types. Strong collection activities will be directed at willful and habitual delinquents, while support measures such as installment payments, payment deferrals, and welfare program referrals will be provided to those facing economic hardship.

In her remarks, Governor Choo Mi-ae emphasized the role of the delinquency management team. She explained that while tax officials, known as 'seri,' may be perceived as intimidating, there is a need for figures who can listen to and assist those who want to pay taxes but face financial difficulties. She further noted that as an economic community, everyone must fulfill their tax obligations, but acknowledged that taxes can be a significant burden for those struggling to make a living. She informed them that there are systems available to temporarily rely on, such as payment deferrals or welfare program linkages, until their business conditions improve.

Governor Choo repeatedly urged, "Become a delinquency management team that people can lean on during hard times," adding, "Help us achieve not a sharp and cold fairness, but a warm and inclusive fairness."

She also addressed the press conference held that morning regarding Gyeonggi Province's fiscal crisis, stating that even under difficult fiscal conditions, the province would never shirk or abandon its responsibilities for safety and the public livelihood. Governor Choo emphasized, "I will work to ensure that every precious tax won you collect serves as seed money to make Gyeonggi provincial administration more inclusive, more innovative, and safer."
