Ripple has announced a major upgrade to the core server software of the XRP Ledger (XRPL), 'xrpld v3.3.0.' According to overseas crypto media outlet CoinGape, this upgrade includes six key amendments and focuses on comprehensively enhancing privacy, payment efficiency, operational permissions, and asset management features. In particular, the core objective is to further solidify its strategy for Real World Asset (RWA) tokenization targeting institutions.

CoinGape reported that this upgrade is part of efforts to position RWA at the center of its institutional strategy, in line with Ripple's latest roadmap. It aims to lay the groundwork for expanding institutional use of RWA tokenization and is evaluated as a significant turning point for the XRPL network.

"Supporting the Transfer, Trading, and Payment of Tokenized Assets Worldwide"

Jazzi Cooper, Head of Product at RippleX, stated that this upgrade will support the transfer, trading, collateralization, and payment of tokenized assets worldwide. Vijay Khanna, Head of Engineering at Ripple, described this as "a major update for the XRPL," explaining that it went through extensive verification procedures, including long-term preparation, multiple rounds of testing, attack simulations, and artificial intelligence (AI) audits. He also recommended that node operators upgrade to the new version as soon as possible to ensure service continuity.

For v3.3.0 to be activated on the mainnet, it requires the support of over 80% of validators for a two-week period.

The Six Amendments Up for Vote… Specific Features

According to CoinGape, the six amendments put to a vote in this version 3.3.0 are as follows:

If these amendments pass, it will enable encrypted Multi-Purpose Token (MPT) balances and transfers, atomic execution processing up to eight transactions at once, third-party fee and reserve support, delegation of specific transaction permissions, and the ability for issuers to modify MPT attributes. Additionally, various bug fixes and performance and stability improvements, including fixCleanup3_3_0, have been applied.

Expected Additional 10–15% Memory Reduction… Evaluations from Key Figures

Following the previous XRPL 3.2.0, this upgrade is expected to further reduce memory usage by an additional 10–15%.

J. Ayo Akinyele, Head of Engineering at RippleX, stated, "If approved, we will continue to expand XRPL capabilities for tokenized assets and real-world financial use cases." An XRPL Foundation contributor known as 'Vet' evaluated this version as a "major update," explaining that it includes the world's first XRPL privacy amendment, trustless swaps, over-the-counter (OTC) trading for institutions, and app monetization features.

Mayukha Vadari, a software engineer at Ripple, added that this release also includes improvements to the online deletion feature, fixes for 60 bugs discovered through AI red teaming activities, and optimizations to make xrpld maintenance easier.
