Kim Joo-hyung, who captured his first PGA Tour victory at the 2022 Wyndham Championship, is simultaneously targeting two goals at this year's tournament: rising in the FedEx Cup rankings and qualifying for the Tour Championship.

Currently ranked 34th in the FedEx Cup standings, Kim faces no difficulty advancing to the second playoff event (top 50), but a higher finish in this final regular-season event is urgently needed to compete in the Tour Championship (top 30).

On August 9 (Korean time), Kim carded a 7-under-par 63 with seven birdies and no bogeys in the third round of the Wyndham Championship (total purse of $8.5 million), the PGA Tour's final regular-season event, held at Sedgefield Country Club (par 70) in Greensboro, North Carolina. With a 54-hole total of 15-under-par 195, he leaped from a tie for 14th the previous day into solo third place.

He sits just one stroke behind co-leaders Michael Brennan and Beau Hossler (both USA, 16-under-par), putting him well within striking distance of a comeback victory.

Kim began his round with a sharp second shot on the second hole (par 4) for his first birdie, then gained momentum by sinking a 10.3-meter putt on the third hole (par 3). He calmly added birdies on the fifth hole (par 5) and the eighth hole (par 4) to go 4-under on the front nine alone. After adding another birdie on the 13th hole (par 4) on the back nine, Kim notched further birdies on the 15th (par 5) and 17th (par 4) to complete a bogey-free round.

Kim launched his resurgence last month by winning the Scottish Open for his first title in two years and nine months. He is determined to carry his late-season momentum forward with a strong showing at the Wyndham Championship. He will tee off in the final round at 2:45 a.m. on August 10 (Korean time) alongside Alex Smalley (USA), playing in the group immediately ahead of the leader pairing of Brennan and Hossler to chase the lead.

Meanwhile, Im Sung-jae (28) also posted a 3-under-par round with five birdies and two bogeys, improving to a 54-hole total of 8-under-par 202 and climbing 17 spots from the previous day into a tie for 21st. Im trails the group tied for eighth (11-under-par) by three strokes heading into the final round, where he will aim for a top-10 finish.
