Two films starring Hollywood's representative couple Tom Holland and Zendaya are simultaneously dominating the box office.

The two left a strong impression, appearing as Peter Parker and MJ respectively in 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day,' and as Telemachus and Athena in 'Odyssey.' As the real-life couple took center stage in each work, an unusual situation unfolded where the two films ranked 1st and 2nd at the box office side by side.

According to the Korean Film Council's integrated computerized box office data on the 8th, 'Odyssey' mobilized 525,336 moviegoers that day, maintaining its 1st place position at the box office. The cumulative audience count is 1,376,787. The pace of surpassing 1 million moviegoers in just 4 days since release is one day faster than 'The Man Who Lives with the King' (16.9 million moviegoers) and director Christopher Nolan's 'Oppenheimer.'

Right behind it, 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' attracted 513,897 moviegoers on the same day, recording a cumulative total of 5,447,888. This film surpassed 5 million in 11 days since its release, setting the shortest record among this year's releases. It is 7 days faster than 'The Man Who Lives with the King,' which took 18 days to reach 5 million, and also one day ahead of 'Avatar: The Way of Water' (a post-pandemic 10-million foreign film), which reached the milestone in 12 days.

Two blockbusters are running side by side at the top of the box office in the summer movie season. Attention is focused on whether their long-term box office success will continue amid a wave of new releases.

Meanwhile, the animated film 'Love's Hachuping: Legend of the Whale Jewel' attracted 82,436 moviegoers on the 8th, reaching a cumulative total of 311,157 and ranking 3rd at the box office, continuing to receive enthusiastic responses from family audiences.
