Former Ulsan Nam-gu Mayor Seo Dong-wook, who dedicated his life to the development of the Ulsan region, passed away on the 10th at 7:30 p.m. at the age of 63.

The deceased was transferred to Ulsan University Hospital the previous day, the 9th, after his chronic condition worsened, but he never regained consciousness and ultimately passed away. It was reported that he had been receiving treatment for a liver disease since his tenure as Nam-gu Mayor.

Born in Ulsan in 1963, the deceased graduated from Ulsan Hakseong High School and the Department of Economics at the University of Ulsan. He subsequently held roles including Vice President of the UNICEF Ulsan Support Committee, President of the Ulsan Junior Chamber, and Vice President of the Ulsan Baseball Association, actively engaging in the local community.

After entering politics, former Mayor Seo was first elected as a Ulsan City Council member in 2004 under the Grand National Party and successfully won three consecutive terms. From 2012 to 2014, he served as the 5th publicly elected Ulsan City Council Chair, leading the development of the city administration. In the 2014 local elections, he was elected as Nam-gu Mayor, demonstrating his capabilities as a local government head. Although he failed to win re-election in 2018, he reclaimed the seat in a 2021 by-election and went on to win the 2022 election, setting the record of a three-term district mayor.

During his tenure as Nam-gu Mayor, he championed the value of a "resident-centered happy Nam-gu" and implemented field-oriented administration. He is particularly evaluated for driving Nam-gu's remarkable development across multiple areas, including the revitalization of alleyway commercial districts, the expansion of cultural and tourism infrastructure, and the strengthening of the social safety net.

A memorial altar for the deceased has been set up at the Ulsan Youngnakwon. He is survived by his spouse, Cho Soon-ae, and his children, Seo Sang-woo and Jin-hee, who are mourning his passing.
