The Doosan Bears extended their winning streak to four games, defeating the Hanwha Eagles 6-3 behind a 13-hit outburst and Park Jun-soon's go-ahead three-run home run.
The 2024 KBO League game between Doosan and Hanwha, held at Jamsil Baseball Stadium in Seoul on the 11th, started at 7 PM in accordance with heat countermeasures. With 22,152 spectators in attendance, a 'cooling break' was applied after the end of the 3rd and 7th innings. The KBO League, which had a rest period from the 5th to the 10th, resumed its schedule starting with this game.
Doosan held onto 4th place with a record of 53 wins, 4 ties, and 45 losses, while Hanwha remained in 6th place with 47 wins, 3 ties, and 50 losses.
Doosan's lineup consisted of Kim Dae-han (right fielder), Park Ji-hoon (first baseman), Park Jun-soon (second baseman), Yang Eui-ji (designated hitter), Kim Min-seok (left fielder), Ahn Jae-seok (third baseman), Park Chan-ho (shortstop), Yoon Jun-ho (catcher), and Jo Soo-haeng (center fielder), with Kwak Bin as the starting pitcher. Hanwha fielded Lee Won-seok (center fielder), Jonathan Peraza (right fielder), Moon Hyun-bin (left fielder), Kang Baek-ho (designated hitter), Noh Si-hwan (third baseman), Chae Eun-seong (first baseman), Heo In-seo (catcher), Lee Do-yoon (second baseman), and Shim Woo-joon (shortstop), with Wang Yan-cheng as the starting pitcher.
Doosan steadily built their lead from the early innings. In the bottom of the 1st, after Park Ji-hoon's single, Yang Eui-ji's walk, and Wang Yan-cheng's wild pitch created a two-out, runners-on-second-and-third opportunity, Kim Min-seok's infield single brought home the first run. In the bottom of the 2nd, Park Chan-ho's single and Kim Dae-han's RBI single added another run, putting Doosan ahead 2-0. In the bottom of the 6th, Yang Eui-ji turned on Wang Yan-cheng's slider for a 125-meter solo home run over the left field wall, widening the gap to 3-0.
Doosan starter Kwak Bin completely shut down the Hanwha lineup over 6 innings, allowing 2 hits, 1 walk, and no runs while striking out 10. Backed by a fastball reaching 157 km/h, Kwak raised his season strikeout total to 148, maintaining the league lead in that category. He also lowered his ERA to 2.53, surpassing teammate Choi Min-seok (2.64) to take over first place in the league. However, the bullpen surrendered the tying runs, preventing him from picking up his 10th win of the season.
The game tightened in the top of the 7th as Hanwha mounted a comeback. After Kwak Bin's exit, Kang Baek-ho launched a 130-meter solo home run over the center field wall off Kim Jung-woo. Following a walk to Noh Si-hwan, Chae Eun-seong pulled Kim Taek-yeon's 150 km/h fastball for a two-run home run over the left field wall, tying the game at 3-3.
However, Doosan immediately reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the 7th. With runners on first and third and one out, set up by Kim Dae-han's double and Park Ji-hoon's infield single, Park Jun-soon hammered Jang Yu-ho's first-pitch slider (135 km/h) for a 130-meter three-run home run over the left field wall. It was Park's 16th home run of the season and his 10th game-winning hit.
Takada Takuto took the mound in the 8th and Lee Young-ha in the 9th to shut down Hanwha's rally. Lee Young-ha recorded his 17th save of the season.
Offensively, Park Ji-hoon had a big day with 4 hits in 4 at-bats and 2 runs scored. Kim Dae-han added 2 hits, 1 RBI, and 1 run, while Yang Eui-ji had 2 hits including a home run, 1 RBI, and 1 run. Kim Min-seok contributed 2 hits and 1 RBI.
For Hanwha, starter Wang Yan-cheng went 5 innings, allowing 8 hits (1 home run), 1 walk, 4 strikeouts, and 3 earned runs. Jang Yu-ho, who gave up 3 hits (1 home run) and 3 runs over 1⅓ innings in relief, was charged with the loss. Kang Baek-ho and Chae Eun-seong homered, but the team ultimately fell short of a comeback.
Doosan and Hanwha will face off again at 7 PM on the 12th at Jamsil Baseball Stadium.
