[Gold in 'Direction-Seeking' Phase After Short-Term Rebound]
The gold market has recently been searching for direction again following a short-term rebound. Gold futures prices on the New York Mercantile Exchange recently recovered the $4,500-per-ounce level during trading sessions but failed to sustain the upward momentum, subsequently retreating to the $4,300–4,400 range amid profit-taking and other factors.
Gold's push toward the $4,500 level came in tandem with shifting interest rate outlooks as the market digested recent U.S. inflation indicators and other data. However, sell orders emerged near the $4,500 mark, creating headwinds to extending further gains in the short term.
[Key Watch Points: ① Stable Break Above $4,500 ② Re-entry Above $5,000]
As a result, whether gold can decisively and stably clear the $4,500 level has emerged as the market's primary watch point.
Taking a broader view, whether gold will re-enter the $5,000-per-ounce range is also drawing attention. Gold surpassed $5,000 early this year but has since undergone a correction and now trades well below that price level. Given that gold rebounded to the $4,500 level only to be pushed back again, additional momentum will be needed for the upward trend toward $5,000 to resume.
