Pop star Shakira is donating approximately 1.7 billion won ($1.25 million) for earthquake recovery in her home country of Colombia. The move draws attention not only for her musical achievements but also for her humanitarian activities.

Shakira recently announced that, in connection with the global success of the official World Cup theme song 'Dai Dai,' she will personally fund $1.25 million for the restoration of schools and improvement of educational environments in underserved areas of Colombia. The donation will be administered through the children's charity 'Barefoot Foundation,' which Shakira founded, and will be used to rebuild damaged classrooms and provide advanced multimedia educational environments.

'Dai Dai' Success Extends to Philanthropy

'Dai Dai,' the official World Cup theme song created by Shakira together with Burna Boy, has gained worldwide popularity, topping the Billboard Global (excluding the U.S.) chart for seven consecutive weeks even after the World Cup ended. In the first week of August, it ranked No. 1 on the YouTube global chart with approximately 117.8 million views, and reached the top of the charts in 9 out of 15 major markets including the United Kingdom, Germany, and Canada. On the U.S. Billboard main singles chart, the 'Hot 100,' it peaked at No. 17.

Full Royalties and Tour Ticket Sales Also Go to Education

The giving does not stop there. Shakira is donating the full royalties from 'Dai Dai' to the 'FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund,' and is also donating an additional $1 per ticket sold for her world tour 'Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran.' The tour recorded a cumulative audience of 3.3 million and total revenue of $421.6 million, earning it the No. 1 spot as the highest-grossing Hispanic tour in Billboard Boxscore history.

12 Consecutive Concerts at Madrid's 'Estadio Shakira' in September

Having completed her North American arena tour, Shakira is set to hold 12 consecutive solo stadium concerts titled 'ES LATINA' in September at her dedicated venue, 'Estadio Shakira,' in Madrid, Spain. Shakira emphasized her belief that 'education is the only key to breaking the cycle of poverty.'
