KOSPI Closes Up at 7,080.92 Ahead of Chuseok Holiday, Led by Large-Cap Semiconductor and IT Stocks
On the 23rd, the KOSPI finished its final regular trading session before the Chuseok holiday, closing at 7,080.92, up 63.01 points (0.90%) from the previous trading day.
The index opened at 7,153.99, with the opening price marking the intraday high. It later fell to as low as 7,014.98 before finishing above that low. Although the market closed higher, the closing price fell short of the opening level.
Among the top 10 stocks by market capitalization, gainers outnumbered losers, but Hyundai Motor and Samsung Biologics declined.
■ Samsung Electronics, SK Square Rise
Samsung Electronics closed up 9,000 won (3.25%) at 285,500 won. Samsung Electronics Preferred Shares finished up 8,500 won (4.02%) at 220,000 won.
SK Hynix closed up 22,000 won (1.20%) at 1,862,000 won.
SK Square climbed 57,000 won (5.03%) to 1,190,000 won, recording the largest gain among the top 10 stocks by market capitalization.
Samsung Electro-Mechanics closed up 21,000 won (1.41%) at 1,507,000 won, staying above the 1.5 million won mark. LG Energy Solution rose 1,000 won (0.29%) to 351,500 won.
■ Hyundai Motor, Samsung Biologics Fall
In contrast, Hyundai Motor closed down 7,000 won (1.94%) at 353,500 won. Samsung Biologics fell 25,000 won (1.80%) to 1,366,000 won, and KB Financial Group finished down 2,500 won (1.42%) at 173,200 won.
Samsung C&T closed unchanged at 367,000 won, matching the previous trading day.
Of the top 10 stocks by market capitalization, six rose, three fell, and one remained flat.
