As of October 5, according to Gold Price.com, the buying price of pure gold rose 3,000 won (0.38%) from the previous day, while platinum and silver also trended higher. Market attention is focused on whether gold, a safe-haven asset, can maintain its support as the U.S. economy's solid growth has been confirmed.

■ Gold Price: Pure Gold 3.75g at 784,000 Won to Buy

According to Gold Price.com that day, pure gold 3.75g was listed at 784,000 won to buy and 695,000 won to sell. The buying price rose 3,000 won from the previous day, up 0.38%, while the selling price was unchanged.

18K was unchanged from the previous day at 513,000 won to sell, and 14K was also unchanged at 398,000 won to sell.

■ Platinum and Silver Both Strong

Platinum, on a 3.75g basis, was quoted at 327,000 won to buy and 266,000 won to sell. The buying price rose 10,000 won from the previous day, up 3.15%, while the selling price rose 4,000 won, up 1.53%.

Silver, on a 3.75g basis, recorded 10,750 won to buy and 10,350 won to sell. The buying price rose 100 won from the previous day, up 0.94%, while the selling price rose 350 won, up 3.50%.

■ U.S. Q2 GDP at 2.2%... 'Gold's Support Tested'

The U.S. Department of Commerce recently announced that the final figure for U.S. gross domestic product (GDP) growth in the second quarter of 2026 came in at 2.2% (annualized quarter-on-quarter). This reaffirmed the solid growth trajectory of the U.S. economy.

However, underlying price pressures and concerns over a consumption slowdown due to prolonged high interest rates still persist. Accordingly, it seems necessary to keep in mind that gold, as a safe-haven asset, is likely to remain in a phase where its support is tested, with demand dispersal from a soft economic landing intermingling with risk-hedging demand against long-term economic uncertainty.
