Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, the leading semiconductor large-cap stocks representing the Korean stock market, both fell more than 4% on the 12th. As the two stocks, collectively known as 'Samtecnics,' declined together, the KOSPI also dropped more than 3%. With the downward trend continuing among top large-cap stocks by market capitalization, attention is focused on the future direction of semiconductor stocks.
As of the market close on the 12th, Samsung Electronics finished trading at 251,000 won, down 11,000 won (4.20%) from the previous trading day, with its share price falling to the 250,000-won level. SK Hynix also ended the session at 1,605,000 won, down 76,000 won (4.52%) from the previous day, and attention is focused on whether it can defend the 1,600,000-won level.
Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix rank first and second in KOSPI market capitalization and account for a large share of the domestic stock market, so their simultaneous weakness is drawing attention.
With the KOSPI falling below the 6,400 level, attention in the next trading session is expected to focus on whether Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix will rebound, as well as on the overall stock price trends of domestic semiconductor stocks.
