Domestic gold prices closed higher on October 15, 2026. According to the Korea Gold Exchange, the buying price of pure gold (24K, 3.75g) rose 5,000 won (0.63%) from the previous day to 788,000 won, while the selling price climbed 1,000 won (0.15%) to 674,000 won.

18K and 14K gold prices also rose in tandem. The selling price of 18K rose 700 won (0.14%) from the previous day to 495,400 won, while that of 14K rose 500 won (0.13%) to 384,200 won.

In contrast, platinum and silver prices fell. Platinum (3.75g) dropped 7,000 won (-2.31%) to 303,000 won for buying and 6,000 won (-2.44%) to 246,000 won for selling. Silver (3.75g) fell 370 won (-3.63%) to 10,200 won for buying and 320 won (-3.77%) to 8,480 won for selling. Unlike the rise in gold prices, platinum and silver weakened, showing divergent price movements within the precious metals market.

International gold prices also rebounded. Based on the New York Mercantile Exchange, the international gold price currently stands at 4,160.60 dollars per ounce, up 52.70 dollars (1.28%) from the previous day. In particular, attention is focused on the fact that international gold futures have recovered the 4,160-dollar-per-ounce level, showing a rebound after the recent price correction.

The overnight weakness of the New York stock market is cited as a background for the rise. While the three major New York stock indices all showed weakness, gold futures prices actually rose, raising the possibility that safe-haven sentiment, coupled with the stock market's weakness, supported gold prices. Market interest in gold as a safe asset appears to be rising again.

On the 14th (local time), the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.09%, the S&P 500 index fell 1.11%, and the Nasdaq Composite index fell 1.88% on the New York stock market. It is analyzed that concerns over inflationary pressure in the United States and the possibility of additional interest rate hikes, triggered by the CPI released the previous day, dampened investor sentiment.

Whether this upward trend will continue is expected to depend on the movements of the U.S. stock market, the value of the dollar, and the outlook for the U.S. Federal Reserve's (Fed) monetary policy. Domestic gold prices also rose along with the rebound in international gold prices, but platinum and silver continued to decline, showing differentiated movements among precious metals.
