An accident occurred at a national highway construction site being carried out by Hyundai Asan, a subsidiary of Hyundai Elevator, in which a worker employed by a subcontractor died. Hyundai Asan disclosed this information on the 20th.

According to the disclosure, on the 17th, a worker employed by a Hyundai Asan subcontractor was found in a state of cardiac arrest during lunch break at the Pohang-Andong 2 (Section 1) national highway construction site in Songsa-ri, Giran-myeon, Andong, North Gyeongsang Province. The worker was transported to a hospital by ambulance but was confirmed dead. The disclosure stated that the accident resulted in one fatality and no injuries. Hyundai Asan reported the accident to the Ministry of Employment and Labor on the 19th. Police and the Ministry of Employment and Labor are currently inspecting the site to determine the detailed cause.

■ Formwork Assembly and Disassembly Work Partially Suspended... Whether It Constitutes a Serious Disaster Remains Undetermined

On the 19th, Hyundai Asan received a partial work suspension order from the Andong Branch of the Daegu Regional Employment and Labor Office, on the grounds of an imminent risk of industrial accidents or work-related illness. The scope of the suspension covers all formwork assembly and disassembly work. Hyundai Asan plans to resume work after completing safety measures and receiving confirmation from the head of the regional employment and labor office.

However, the company stated that as of the disclosure date, it is unclear whether this case constitutes a serious disaster under the Occupational Safety and Health Act. If police and ministry investigations later determine that it is not a serious disaster, the company plans to file a corrective disclosure.
