Large-cap stocks that plunged during the regular session on November 5, 2026, have failed to recover their losses even after the market close. Comparing prices on NexTrade (NXT), where trading continues after the regular session ends, with regular-session prices shows that most of the top stocks by trading value are flat or down slightly further. The regular session saw a broad market selloff. The KOSPI fell 300.00 points (5.28%) to 5,383.80, while the KOSDAQ dropped 36.54 points (5.11%) to 678.41. The KOSPI 200, centered on large caps, fell 5.79%, more than the KOSPI. Decliners (537 on the KOSPI, 1,292 on the KOSDAQ) far outnumbered gainers (344 on the KOSPI, 380 on the KOSDAQ). KOSPI supply and demand was split between net selling of 3.4031 trillion won by foreigners and net buying of 2.2773 trillion won by individuals and 848.5 billion won by institutions. The direct cause of the plunge cannot be determined from this market data. After-hours trading is split between two markets. The Korea Exchange (KRX) aftermarket runs from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., while the NXT aftermarket runs from 3:40 p.m. to 8 p.m.
■ Semiconductor and Battery Large Caps Fail to Rebound on NXT Either
SK Hynix is trading on NXT at 1,272,000 won, 1,000 won (0.08%) below its regular-session price of 1,273,000 won, with its decline versus the previous day at 8.88%, slightly worse than the regular session's 8.81%. Samsung Electronics is unchanged at 203,000 won, the same as the regular session. Samsung Electro-Mechanics, which posted the biggest drop with a 13.54% plunge in the regular session, fell another 0.10% from 964,000 won to 963,000 won, and SK Square also slipped 0.12% from 813,000 won to 812,000 won. Samsung SDI, a leading battery stock, fell 1,000 won from its regular-session price of 513,000 won to 512,000 won. The 0.19% decline is the largest among the eight stocks traded on both markets, and its drop versus the previous day widened from 5.87% in the regular session to the 6% range at 6.06%.
■ Gainers in the Selloff Hold On to Most of Their Advances
Stocks that rose despite the selloff have largely held their gains in after-hours trading. Celltrion is at 212,500 won, the same as the regular session, maintaining a 6.25% gain versus the previous day. NAVER slipped 0.05% from 183,100 won to 183,000 won, and Hyundai Motor eased 0.17% from 290,500 won to 290,000 won, but their gains versus the previous day remain positive at 7.14% and 2.29%, respectively.
Some stocks appear only on one market's top list by trading value. On KRX, Samsung Electronics preferred shares ranked fourth by trading value at 624.1 billion won, trading down 9,900 won (5.77%) at 161,800 won, a decline 1.11 percentage points smaller than the common shares' 6.88% drop. Hanwha Solutions traded down 1,150 won (4.11%) at 26,850 won, with its volume of 14,365,823 shares the second highest among KRX's top 10 after Samsung Electronics. On NXT, Hanjin Kal and OCI Holdings made the top ranks. Hanjin Kal rose 2,300 won (1.25%) to 186,600 won on 225.1 billion won in trading value, having touched an intraday high of 195,700 won, now 4.65% below that level. OCI Holdings rose 3,500 won (1.75%) to 203,500 won on 142.9 billion won in trading value, down 5.57% from its high of 215,500 won. Both stocks remain higher but well off their intraday peaks.
■ Similar Current Prices, Different Intraday Ranges
While current prices are nearly identical across the two markets, intraday price ranges differed. SK Hynix's NXT high of 1,381,000 won was 61,000 won above its regular-session high of 1,320,000 won, a price only 1.07% below the previous day's close of 1,396,000 won, suggesting the selling pressure early in the NXT session was weak. SK Square's NXT high of 888,000 won was also 33,000 won above its regular-session high of 855,000 won. Conversely, Hyundai Motor's NXT low of 282,000 won fell below the previous day's close of 283,500 won, compared with a regular-session low of 289,250 won. NAVER (NXT low 171,500 won vs. regular-session 177,100 won) and Celltrion (NXT low 201,000 won vs. regular-session 206,000 won) also saw lower lows on NXT than in the regular session, indicating that the gainers started weakly on NXT before expanding their advances in the regular session. Identifying exactly when the highs and lows occurred requires further confirmation from minute-by-minute charts. The degree of trading dispersion across markets also varied widely by stock. Calculating the NXT share of combined trading value across both markets, Samsung SDI stood at 46.0% and Hyundai Motor at 42.5%, nearly half. SK Hynix (35.3%), Samsung Electro-Mechanics (34.7%), Samsung Electronics (34.4%), NAVER (33.9%), and Celltrion (32.7%) were in the mid-30% range, while SK Square was the lowest at 25.0%.
