On the 1st, the Kakao branch of the National Chemical, Textile, and Food Industry Workers' Union announced through a statement that it will hold a four-hour partial strike and a rally in Pangyo on Wednesday, the 10th. While acknowledging concerns regarding the potential impact on major services such as KakaoTalk, the union explained that this is not an immediate full-scale strike and that the intensity of the strike will be adjusted depending on the progress of future negotiations.
The key demands of the union in this strike are 'job security' and an 'overhaul of the compensation system.' The union strongly urged the company to halt sales, spin-offs, and restructuring driven by continuous management failures and to guarantee job security. In particular, they demanded a comprehensive reform of the unfair compensation system, stating, "Although job insecurity has grown due to management's decision-making failures, compensation is heavily concentrated among the executives."
This strike was triggered by the breakdown of prior labor-management negotiations. Following the breakdown of the second mediation session held at the Gyeonggi Regional Labor Relations Commission on the 27th, the union had previously warned that it would go on strike this month.
