Electric air taxi developer Joby Aviation and Toyota Motor Corporation are embarking on a strategic manufacturing partnership in earnest to commercialize Advanced Air Mobility (AAM). The two companies announced that they will establish a Joint Venture aimed at realizing air mobility.

The core of this joint venture lies in combining Joby's electric aircraft technology with Toyota's world-class production systems and manufacturing operational expertise. The two companies plan to initially focus on building commercial production infrastructure and strengthening manufacturing competitiveness. They have set productivity improvement, quality enhancement, and cost reduction as priority tasks, and plan to support expanding Joby's electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft production capacity in response to future aircraft certification and growing market demand. Joby expects this collaboration to serve as a crucial turning point for entering the commercialization phase.

JoeBen Bevirt, founder and CEO of Joby Aviation, said, "Toyota has been with Joby for nearly 10 years, providing invaluable advice and support in the process of building our aircraft manufacturing foundation," adding, "This announcement demonstrates the strength of our relationship and our shared confidence in future opportunities." He added, "Both companies share the same vision of making air mobility an everyday mode of transportation, and we look forward to realizing this together."

Akio Toyoda, Chairman of Toyota Motor Corporation, evaluated, "Since its founding, Toyota has grown based on the philosophy of providing mobility for all," and "Air mobility is a natural evolution of this philosophy expanding from the ground to the sky, and it is a field that can provide new value to people and society." He emphasized, "I am very honored to embark on a new challenge together with Joby, which shares the same vision," and "This strengthened collaboration will serve as an important milestone in realizing a future mobility society."

The two companies will continue their cooperation, centered on the joint venture going forward, by leveraging each other's strengths to more broadly disseminate air mobility throughout society.
