Hanwha Ocean (042660) is attracting investors' attention by showing a strong trend despite a plunge in the domestic stock market.

As of 1:39 p.m. on the 16th, Hanwha Ocean is trading at 85,100 won, up 3,100 won (3.78%) from the previous trading day. At the same time, both the KOSPI and KOSDAQ are recording significant declines, with the KOSPI down 6.80% and the KOSDAQ down 4.53%, but Hanwha Ocean is maintaining a relatively steady trend.

A series of domestic and international defense industry issues underlie this strong performance.

First, overseas, the company competed for Canada's Next-Generation Submarine (CPSP) project but was ultimately not selected after competing with Germany's ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems (TKMS). However, it is evaluated as having proven its competitiveness in the global submarine market, and interest continues regarding its future moves in overseas defense procurement.

In the domestic market, the company's selection as the preferred bidder for the Korean Next-Generation Destroyer (KDDX) project served as a positive catalyst.

To this, expectations originating from the United States have also been added. U.S. President Donald Trump mentioned on the 15th (local time) the need to expand the U.S. naval force and stated that he would consider cooperation with overseas shipbuilders, including those in South Korea. He also suggested the possibility of purchasing warships built overseas. As a result, some in the market are forming expectations that South Korea's warship-building capabilities could be re-evaluated.

However, some analysts note that since the actual receipt of orders and specific project schedules have not yet been confirmed, the progress of related issues should be continuously monitored.
