Comedian Oh Ji-heon opened up about his family history, including his father, who was a top Korean history instructor, and the pain caused by his parents' divorce.

Oh recalled the early 1990s, when his father was highly successful as a top Korean history instructor. At a time when a house in Apgujeong-dong cost around 20 to 30 million won, his father's monthly income reached a staggering 50 million won. Thanks to this, Oh grew up without financial hardship, living in a 100-pyeong (approximately 330 square meters) mansion complete with a yard and swimming pool, even employing a personal chauffeur.

However, despite appearances, the family atmosphere was far from harmonious. As his father became consumed by work and prioritized it over his family, marital disputes grew more frequent, and his parents eventually divorced when Oh was a high school senior. He went to live with his father but struggled severely with depression, which caused great difficulty in his studies.

His father's high expectations made things even harder for him. Oh shared the pain he felt at the time, saying, "Since my father worked as an academy instructor and met many outstanding students, he had high expectations for me as well. In that process, I felt like his remarks were belittling me, which was emotionally difficult."

Immediately after taking the College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT), he left home without informing his father and went to find his mother. However, following the divorce, his mother was living at his aunt's house without a single penny, struggling financially with no steady job and barely making ends meet day by day. Since his mother was in no position to care for her son, Oh had to spend a year living at a boarding-style college prep academy.

After entering college, he began working part-time jobs to cover his tuition and living expenses. During that time, he entered an impersonation contest with a 10 million won grand prize and took home the top award. This became the turning point that led him to debut as a KBS public recruit comedian in 2003, where he made a name for himself with his unique appearance and wit.

For a while, his relationship with his father remained severed. Then, after hearing that his grandmother was critically ill, he reunited with his father for the first time in eight years. Having gained diverse experiences through his social life and becoming a father himself, Oh finally came to understand his parents' perspective. He revealed that after a long time had passed, he realized that his father had not been indifferent to him after all.
