The South Korea Under-20 (U-20) men's handball national team has reclaimed its position as Asia's top team after eight years with a dramatic comeback victory. This achievement by the young players is regarded as an important asset that will drive the future generational transition of the senior national team, serving as an opportunity to confirm the bright future of Korean handball.

Last-Minute Winner Secures Fourth Overall Title

The South Korean U-20 national team claimed a thrilling championship by defeating the United Arab Emirates (UAE) 25-24 in the final of the 19th Asian Men's Junior (U-20) Handball Championship, held on the 27th of last month in Chuzhou, Anhui Province, China. A decisive goal scored just before the end of the match determined the outcome. Throughout the tournament, South Korea demonstrated its depth by successively defeating powerhouse teams from Japan and the Middle East. With this victory, the team reached the summit for the fourth time overall and the first time since 2018.

Championship Celebration Hosted by Association Chairman Kwak No-jung

The Korea Handball Federation (Chairman Kwak No-jung) announced on the 10th that it held a celebration on the 7th at SK Hynix headquarters in Icheon, Gyeonggi Province, to commemorate the national team's Asian Championship victory.

Chairman Kwak No-jung, who also serves as President and CEO of SK Hynix, personally invited the national team and coaching staff to share the joy of the championship and commend the team for their hard work. The players who attended the event that day toured SK Hynix's semiconductor production facilities before enjoying a celebratory dinner with Chairman Kwak and federation officials at a nearby restaurant.

Chairman Kwak stated, "The national team deeply moved handball fans by overcoming strong opponents from Japan and the Middle East with fierce determination and achieving a dramatic comeback victory in the final." He added, "I hope the winning momentum you have created carries over to the senior national team players who will compete at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games in September."

Head coach Park Hyun-jong said, "Thanks to the federation's support, we were able to come together as one team until the very last moment and write a comeback drama." He added, "We will not be satisfied with this achievement and will continue to develop further to repay the support of our fans."

Meanwhile, attention is focused on whether this U-20 national team's victory will serve as a signal for a new leap forward for South Korean men's handball ahead of the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games scheduled for this September.
