As the domestic stock market plunges, major shipbuilding stocks are weakening across the board. HD Hyundai Heavy Industries and Hanwha Ocean both recorded declines in the 7% range, while HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering, Daehan Shipbuilding, Samsung Heavy Industries, and HJ Heavy Industries also fell 4–5%, with downward pressure continuing across the sector.

■ Individual Stock Movements As of 1:16 p.m. on the 20th, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries was trading at 320,000 won, down 25,500 won (-7.38%) from the previous day, recording the largest drop among major shipbuilding stocks. Hanwha Ocean fell 4,500 won (-7.01%) to trade at 59,700 won, slipping below the 60,000-won level. The downward trend continued during the session, pushing the share price into the 50,000-won range.

HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering was trading at 254,500 won, down 17,000 won (-6.26%) from the previous day. Daehan Shipbuilding also fell 2,300 won (-5.44%) to 40,000 won. Samsung Heavy Industries was down 870 won (-4.75%) at 17,430 won, and HJ Heavy Industries fell 560 won (-4.38%) to trade at 12,220 won.

■ Broad Market Plunge and Parallel Weakness The simultaneous weakness of shipbuilding stocks this day coincides with a broad plunge in the domestic stock market. At the same time, the KOSPI was down 233.19 points (-4.04%) from the previous day at 5,534.82. The KOSDAQ was also trading 23.31 points (-2.88%) lower at 785.58. With both indices falling sharply, shipbuilding stocks have been unable to escape the downward trend. Notably, large-cap shipbuilding stocks are all posting declines in the 4–7% range.

■ Q3 Earnings and Order Outlook as Future Variables The shipbuilders' third-quarter earnings and order outlook, to be released going forward, are cited as key variables that will determine the direction of their share prices.
