Doosan Enerbility Rebounds, Overcoming Previous Day's Weakness... '70,000-Bility' Still a Way Off

Doosan Enerbility (034020) has succeeded in rebounding after the shock of the previous trading day's sharp decline, drawing attention to the direction of its stock price on the 22nd. The progress of overseas business projects in the domestic nuclear power industry is also emerging as a variable that will gauge future investor sentiment.
■ Stock Price Seeks to Recover from 7% Plunge
Doosan Enerbility finished trading on the KOSPI market on the 21st at 63,700 won, up 1.43%. Although the stock fell more than 7% on the 20th, heightening investor concerns, it turned upward that day in an attempt to shift the mood. Some domestic nuclear power stocks, including Korea Electric Power Corporation and Woori Technology, also showed strength in tandem that day.
However, it is worth noting that a single day of rebound has not fully recovered the previous losses. Whether this is merely a short-term technical rebound or will lead to further gains remains to be seen. In particular, the stock has yet to recover the 70,000-won level, making the return of '70,000-bility' a key point of interest.
■ Czech Dukovany Project, a Touchstone for Nuclear Exports
Amid this, external cooperation movements related to the domestic nuclear power industry are also drawing attention. According to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the industry ministers of Korea and the Czech Republic recently reviewed the progress of the new Dukovany nuclear power plant construction project together. The two countries confirmed that the project is proceeding according to the schedule set so far, and discussed the necessary licensing procedures and follow-up schedules.
The Czech Dukovany project is significant in terms of the Korean nuclear power industry's entry into the European market. Nuclear power plant construction involves not only plant design and construction but also key equipment manufacturing, materials supply, and maintenance, spanning multiple industrial sectors. As such, the project's progress is a matter of key interest for the entire domestic nuclear supply chain.
■ Uncertainty from the EU's Industry Acceleration Act (IAA)
However, institutional uncertainty surrounding entry into the European market remains. Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Kim Jung-kwan expressed concern over the possibility that the Industry Acceleration Act (IAA) being pursued by the European Union (EU) could be designed in a way that restricts the participation of non-EU companies.
Minister Kim stated, "In a situation where the EU's domestic nuclear supply chain has weakened, for nuclear power plant construction in the Czech Republic and elsewhere in the EU to proceed without disruption, cooperation with countries equipped with excellent supply chains like Korea is essential," adding, "We ask that the Czech Republic continue its diplomatic efforts within the EU so that the IAA does not hinder bilateral cooperation." Depending on the final form of the relevant regulations, the domestic industry could also be affected.
■ Cooperation Discussed Extending to Temelin Follow-up Project
The two countries also discussed the possibility of cooperation regarding the Temelin Units 3 and 4 nuclear power project, which the Czech Republic is pursuing as an additional project. The stable implementation of the Dukovany project and whether cooperation expands to follow-up nuclear projects are useful reference points for judging the mid- to long-term growth potential of the domestic nuclear power industry. Doosan Enerbility, which possesses nuclear key equipment manufacturing capabilities, is also not unrelated to these changes in the industrial environment.
■ Key Factors for the Stock Price on the 22nd
The stock price on the 22nd is expected to be influenced by whether the rebound after the sharp decline can be maintained in the short term, and by how concretely expectations for business expansion in the nuclear power industry translate into actual results over the mid to long term.
