SK Telecom has decided to establish a new entity named 'SK Hyper' and invest a total of 750 billion won to strengthen its competitiveness in the artificial intelligence (AI) data center business.

In a regulatory filing on the 23rd, SK Telecom announced its decision to establish a new affiliate, 'SK Hyper Co., Ltd.,' and make a cash investment. The company plans to acquire 1,875,000 shares, with a total acquisition amount of 750 billion won. This figure represents 5.79% of the company's equity capital (12,955,292,390,000 won). The investment will be executed in stages. Of the total 750 billion won approved by the Board of Directors, 330 billion won will be invested first by July 2026, and the remaining 420 billion won will be invested sequentially depending on the progress of the business. The scheduled acquisition date stated in the filing is December 31, 2030, which represents the final date for the payment of the investment funds.

SK Hyper, the newly established entity led by CEO Jung Seok-geun, will pursue AI data center operations as its core business. SK Telecom explained that the purpose of this investment is to 'strengthen competitiveness in the AI data center business.'

However, the company added that the number of shares to be acquired, the acquisition amount, the scheduled acquisition date, and other conditions may change depending on future business progress.
