Hanwha Aerospace (012450) captured market attention with a steep surge that triggered a volatility trading halt (VI) early in the session.

According to reports on the 30th, a static VI was triggered for Hanwha Aerospace at 9:47:39 AM and lifted at 9:49:52 AM. As of 9:51 AM, the stock was trading at 886,000 won, up 76,000 won (9.38%) from the previous trading day.

Even as both the KOSPI and KOSDAQ declined on the same day, strong buying pressure poured into Hanwha Aerospace, showing a distinctly divergent trend. At the same time, the KOSPI fell 0.35% and the KOSDAQ dropped 1.21%, with both major indices unable to escape weakness.

The market is focusing on the heightened interest in the future direction of monetary policy following the U.S. Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting held overnight, where the benchmark interest rate was frozen for the fifth consecutive time. While the rate freeze itself was in line with expectations, interpretations regarding the timing of future rate cuts and the economic outlook remain divided within the market.

Furthermore, geopolitical risks are expanding again as foreign media reported that the United States resumed airstrikes against Iran after a six-day pause. Some analysts suggest that if instability in the Middle East deepens, market attention could concentrate on related sectors such as defense and energy.

With two major variables — monetary policy and geopolitics — simultaneously emerging as key factors, attention is focused on whether Hanwha Aerospace, a leading defense stock, can sustain its strong momentum.
