The Democratic Party of Korea is pursuing multifaceted policies to expand youth housing supply. It is reviewing various supply methods, including transit-oriented youth housing, housing centered on actual end-users, and publicly supported private housing, as well as the introduction of 'modular construction' methods for rapid building. To this end, the party emphasized cooperation with the Seoul Metropolitan Government.

Han Jung-ae, Chair of the Democratic Party's Policy Committee, made these remarks at a press briefing held at the National Assembly on the 9th, stressing the severity of the youth housing issue. On this day, Chair Han conveyed a clear stance that the 'bus house' proposal, which sparked controversy following a suggestion by Rep. Hwang Hee, is "impossible to implement given the reality of Korea."

Chair Han explained, "In European countries such as the Netherlands, houseboats exist because there are many canals and consistent rainfall, but in our country, it is realistically difficult to apply due to extreme seasonal changes and a lack of idle land." She added, "If there were idle land available, it would be more efficient to build housing there in the first place."

Earlier, on the 7th, Rep. Hwang Hee proposed a 'bus house' plan through Facebook that would involve remodeling decommissioned buses to provide short-term housing for young people near university districts. However, after facing criticism for being an unrealistic proposal, he deleted the post and subsequently deleted a follow-up explanatory post as well, drawing further controversy.

In this regard, Chair Han drew a line, stating, "Rep. Hwang's proposal was a personal idea, not party policy." Nevertheless, she added, "I sincerely apologize for causing distress to young people during this process." She reiterated that the party takes the youth housing issue very seriously.

Meanwhile, Chair Han also commented on President Lee Jae-myung's instruction to reconsider the government's plan to overhaul the ISA (Individual Savings Account) and legislation to prevent stock price suppression.

Chair Han explained, "The party had already been conducting related discussions," noting, "The existing ISA does not need to be altered, and there were shortcomings in the original intent of the stock price suppression prevention bill, so we were already in discussions with the Ministry of Economy and Finance." She added that the president's raising of the issue and the party's position are aligned.
