The KOSPI surged more than 4% in the regular session on the 7th, climbing to just below the 7,000 level.
The KOSPI closed at 6,995.39, up 308.18 points (4.61%) from the previous trading day, leaving only 4.61 points to reach the 7,000 mark. The intraday trend was also strong, with the index starting at 6,910.78 and rising as high as 6,995.40 during the session.
The rally was driven by large-cap stocks with the highest market capitalizations. The top 10 stocks by market cap all rose in unison, bolstering the index, and all of them finished the day higher.
■ Semiconductor Large-Caps Show Notable Strength
The rally was led by semiconductor-related large-cap stocks. Samsung Electronics closed at 270,000 won, up 14,500 won (5.68%) from the previous session. SK Hynix closed at 1,783,000 won after jumping 136,000 won (8.26%), recording the biggest gain among the top 10 stocks by market cap.
SK Square also finished trading at 1,125,000 won, up 84,000 won (8.07%). With Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix, and SK Square all rising sharply, the strength of semiconductor-related large caps was evident.

- Samsung Electronics Preferred: up 8,000 won (4.18%) to 199,600 won
- Samsung Electro-Mechanics: up 53,000 won (3.78%) to 1,454,000 won

■ Focus Shifts to Breaking the 7,000 Level in the Next Session
With the KOSPI climbing all the way to the 6,990 level in a single session, whether it can reclaim the 7,000 mark in the next trading day is expected to be a key focal point for the market.
However, as the index's short-term volatility has widened, changes in supply and demand centered on large-cap stocks also warrant attention.
